Description
Colliding galaxies. Computer illustration of four galaxies (yellow) colliding. These galaxies will ultimately tangle and merge to form one huge galaxy. Although the galaxies are still relatively intact, gravitational disturbances have caused them to distort and twist, flinging stars (white dots) everywhere. Other nearby galaxies (small, blue) are also shown. Based on observations by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope.
